Early Life and Education The 14th Dalai Lama was born on July 6, 1935, in the small village of Taktser in Tibet. At the age of two, he was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, and was taken to Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet, to begin his spiritual education. The Dalai Lama received a rigorous education in Tibetan Buddhism, studying under some of the most respected scholars and teachers in Tibet.
